About MilSpec

MilSpec Communications, Inc. (MCI), the parent Company of MilSpec Medical (MSM), was formed and incorporated in February 1996 by Howard L. Bayne III.  MCI has been doing business primarily in the communications field for over 20 years including two retail stores in Beaufort, SC offering cell phones, phones-in the-box, cell phone service, replenishment, phone cards, LEC (local exchange carrier) service, long distance service, broadband Internet, Voice-over-IP, and money movement services.  In 2008, the Bayne’s (owners) sold the newly consolidated retail store to its employees, but retained the Company name and its machine replenishment business, which it has operated continuously since inception.  Corporate Headquarters had effectively always been, just as it is today, at 195 Distant Island Drive, Beaufort, SC 29907, to where we moved the remnants of the Company then.  The prepaid replenishment business, the final piece of the communications side of MCI, was sold to an eager buyer in early August 2017.

In January of 2015, MilSpec Communications, Inc. DBA MilSpec Medical was formally created, taking our Company into the new field of medical sales.  We became an important and direct, authorized subsidiary of Sage Services Group, LLC, selling their cables, leads, cuffs and sensors for patient monitoring devices.  Prior to this date, MilSpec Medical also became an officially sanctioned service-disabled, 100% veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB) through the CVE (Center for Verification and Evaluation) of the Department of Veterans Affairs (actually in November 2014), and we have maintained that certification ever since.  This qualification / certification gives us a real advantage of being able to offer our products to the federal government, the US military, and especially the Department of Veterans Affairs.

In September of 2014, I began inventive work creating a “sterile medical device case” (patent application title and what our patent application describes) for the McGrath video laryngoscope, a medical instrument used in many hospital operations.  The MACMILLER is a one of a kind mobile storage box that came out of that creation process.  I saw the medical community desperately needing a device to properly store and securely protect the McGrath video laryngoscope from breakage, yet allow the McGrath to be immediately available to clinicians.  Our MACMILLER box is patent-pending, and both the names MACMILLER and MILSPEC MEDICAL have been trademarked through the USPTO.  As of this writing, manufacturing has occurred and is proceeding on “Solution 1,” which is the OR (operating room) solution, while “Solution 2,” the mobile/battlefield solution is still under development and testing.  Both solutions are covered under our patent application.  MACMILLER sales is the second of the two general areas of focus highlighted by our website, www.milspecmed.com.

In July 2017, MSM received its first official federal government purchase order, delivering and fulfilling its first major order of 75 MACMILLERS (one for each their McGrath video laryngoscopes) to the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC.  Since that time, the MSM team has been working tirelessly with an expert consultant to apply for and land its first FSS government contract.  We enthusiastically hope for and anticipate having that MACMILLER contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs in place soon.

In the meantime, our cables, leads, cuffs, and sensors business for patient monitoring devices in doctors’ offices and in hospitals, both civilian and government (VA medical centers) across the country, is really doing well and continues its extraordinary growth.  This family business is extremely blessed.
